Q: Can you give us an overview of the Carleton Place & District Chamber?
The Carleton Place & District Chamber of Commerce is a membership based organization that supports local businesses by facilitating partnerships, collaboration and promotion in our community.
Q: Tell us about Carleton Place, Ontario and how your organization has immersed itself in your community.
The Chamber was first formed in Carleton Place in 1916 by local business owners who wanted to have a collective voice. Since that time the Chamber has been working to support our business community, local not for profits and community organziations and welcome new residents to the community.
Q: What is something your organization is extremely proud of?
We work hard to connect businesses to each other and to opportunities to grow and are always looking for new ways to help business succeed. We are proud of the way we were able to pivot during Covid to continue to offer programming and support to the local business community and help connect them to grants and programs that were most important to them during that time. We as a Chamber have also been more focused on finding new funding to assist our community through programs such as Think Local Lanark, My Main Street and Tourism Recovery Funds.
Q: Why are the local businesses affiliated with your organization important to you and your community?
Our local businesses truly define our community. It’s not easy being a business owner yet these individuals continue to find new ways to thrive, bring great services to our community and make our community a better place to live.
Q: Tell us a quirky or unique fact about your chamber.
The Carleton Place & District Chamber of Commerce is operated out of the Moore House which is an historic building in Carleton Place. Built in 1872 and refurbished in 2007 to house the local Information Centre which we manage, the house was built by one of the founding families in our community.
